Introduction to the trainer – Nicky
My career spans 16 years of working with newborns to children, to teenagers and adults, including working in pre and post natal exercise and maternal obesity in the NHS.
Having started my career in childcare 16 years ago, caring for 0-5 year olds in nursery settings, I later progressed to lecturing childcare and health and social care courses, literally educating the midwifes, paediatric nurses and child care staff of tomorrow.
Whilst extremely satisfying as a career, a fascination with nutrition and health allowed me the opportunity to progress to working in the health industry specialising in weight loss, pre and post natal exercise and then to child obesity. This led to positions in the NHS working in maternal obesity and child obesity offering a great platform to work closely with midwifes and health visitors.
My final transition, as a hypnotherapist derived from having become intrigued by how our mindset affects our bodies, habits and behaviours. A Step at a Time is based in Crawley, West Sussex and developed from this fascination and offers services to many women who are losing weight post pregnancy, preparing for pregnancy and birth as well as those currently going through the IVF process. Hypnobirthing thus became a natural progression and a service that my clients requested having experienced such success with hypnotherapy previously.
The mind is an amazing tool, the most precious one you have, and investing in it can literally change your outlook, perceptions, fears and progress. Every day I am able to watch my clients change their whole mindset towards phobias, fears and habitual behaviours empowering them to achieve what they want to. Utilising hypnobirthing techniques my clients are able to create the optimum mindset to enter into childbirth feeling empowered, calm and in control, therefore allowing them to experience their best possible birth as they welcome their babies into the world.
I passionately believe that when offering services they should be the highest calibre, and I therefore have spent countless hours (and pounds) training and up-skilling to be able to support my clients to develop the mindset they desire.
